I was in an Uber a few months ago and the driver’s GPS was not only giving him directions to my destination, but calling out warnings. ‘Look out! Pothole in 1000 feet!’ And then a few minutes later, ‘Look out! Stalled vehicle in 2 miles on left hand side.’
What if we all had a personal little global positioning system warning us of upcoming obstacles? Like in real life, not just navigating transportation? ‘Warning! Your partner will break up with you next week.’ Or 'Look out! You will lose your job in 5 months.’ Or even positive warnings, ‘Get ready, you’ll fall in love in 6 wks!’ Or ‘Have no fear, your father will be cured!’
Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a GPS of the soul to help us prepare for the triumphs and set backs of daily life?
Well, good news! There IS a GPS of the soul. Did you watch the Royal Wedding of Harry and Meghan on Saturday? Bishop Michael Curry asked the couple (and everyone on the planet tuning in) to think and imagine a world where love is the way. Aha! We will never be lost again! It was a powerful delivery and a powerful message.
No matter where we are trying to go or what we are trying to accomplish, if we travel on the path of love we are sure to arrive safely and we will be satisfied with our efforts.
It sounds like it’s a simple solution, right? Just choose love. Look at people through the eyes of love. Listen with ears of love. Choose loving actions and words...
Well, I for one know that when faced with anger and fear, rejection and failure - Love is rarely the way that I choose. I choose the way of staying small, feeling hurt, making poor choices, and saying or doing things I will regret. No bueno.
This week I was supposed to be on an airplane to see friends in Germany and the Netherlands for a two week vacation. My family needed me in Missouri so I followed the path of Love and it led me home. Travel and adventure will always be there. My mom and dad won’t be. Love is the way.
I think when we trust that love is the way and we follow our hearts, we will be rewarded every single time. If we are lost, literally or figuratively, we can go within and find guidance.
From Bishop Curry’s sermon:
“There’s power in love. Love can help and heal when nothing else can. There’s power in love to lift up and liberate when nothing else will.”
I’m home and I’m showering my parents with the medicine of love. They need help and healing. One of the ways I show my love is through food. I came up with a smoothie loaded with ingredients to encourage bodily health... Both of my parents are battling pain and I recently learned that the bromelain in pineapples can minimize joint pain and inflammation. They are both diabetic and there are studies that show cinnamon is linked to better blood sugar levels. My mom's been having muscle cramps so I threw in some potassium rich bananas. I added chia seeds to build strength, energy, and endurance (also known to battle diabetes.) Flaxseeds contain anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids. Dates are known to be one of the best ingredients for muscle development and are thought to be beneficial during a time of recovery from injury and illness. Basically, it's a pharmacy by way of milk shake!
